THE PLEASURE OF POETRY AND HOW IT CAN MOVE YOU Monday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. We’ll explore poetry from major poets across time and place, engaging both mind and emotion through language. All forms are welcome—from traditional lyric poems to contemporary song lyrics. Our sessions will include a variety of approaches, including listening to recordings of poets and other performers reading their work. Participants are also invited to share a poem by one of their favorite writers. AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE Wednesday and Thursday, January 7 and 8 from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Presented by the AARP $20.00 – AARP Members, $25.00 – Non-AARP Members AARP Smart Driver Course offers the nation’s first and largest refresher course designed for older drivers. Learn how to reduce the likelihood of having a crash, how aging and health related conditions can affect driving abilities and how you can adjust to allow for these changes. After completion of the course, you may also be eligible for an insurance discount, so ask your agent. Preregistration with payment (check or money order made out to AARP) is required at the Welcome Desk.
ALIGN YOUR LIGHT THROUGH INTENTION & BREATH Thursdays, January 8 to February 26 at 9:30 a.m. $80.00 - Participant Presented by Cara Torricelli In this intentional workshop you will learn to dive deeper into yourself through breath, movement, visualization, and energy clearing practices. Discover techniques to access your inner light by removing debris and setting meaningful intentions, clearing the path towards your highest good. FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM Friday, January 9 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Distribution will take place in the parking lot. You must be aged 60+ and present your ID to receive a box of groceries from the L.A. Regional Food Bank. We recommend you bring a shopping cart to take your box home. POKER PLAY FOR SHARPER MINDS Saturdays, January 10 to 31 at 9:30 a.m. Presented by “ace” instructor, Charles Trigilio $55.00 – Participant Learning to play poker offers valuable cognitive and social benefits for older adults, making it a great activity for healthy aging. This class welcomes beginners, returning players, and experienced players alike, sharpening strategic thinking, improving memory, boosting focus, and encouraging social connection. Participants will learn Texas Hold’em in both live and tournament formats and explore easy, fun card games to share with grandchildren, including Steal the Old Man’s Pack, Crazy 8s, and Chase the Ace. WINTER 2026 MASTERS SERIES UNDERSTANDING ARCHITECTURAL STYLES Tuesdays, January 13 & 20 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., via Zoom Presented by Historian Eleanor Schrader Series: $30.00 – Members, $36.00 - Nonmembers Every building tells a story. Once you learn how to “read” the architecture of a building, you can draw conclusions about its history and turn every outing into an historical adventure. In this two-part online class, art and architecture historian Eleanor Schrader looks at common commercial and residential styles in Southern California and explains their design elements and context. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. Recordings of sessions are available to registered participants.
